Meet Nick – Owner of Hammer & Trowel Construction LLC
With over 10 years of experience in all aspects of construction, Nick brings hands-on expertise and dedication to every project. He started his career as a painter at a young age, honed his skills as a carpenter over time, and worked his way up to project supervisor. His background includes high-end home renovations, painting, drywalling, framing, and more.
Before founding Hammer & Trowel Construction LLC, Nick worked for reputable companies across Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Wanting to bring his knowledge and craftsmanship directly to clients, he set out to build a company that upholds the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction.
As a "toolbelt-on" owner, Nick remains actively involved in every project, handling most aspects of the job himself. For specialized tasks, he partners with a trusted network of subcontractors who share his commitment to excellence. Known for his strong work ethic, he puts in long hours—including weekends—to ensure projects are completed on time and to the client's satisfaction. His clear communication ensures that every detail is approved and every expectation is met.
Outside of work, Nick enjoys fishing, spending time with his dogs, and working on his truck. A country music fan, you'll often find him listening to his favorite tunes while on the job.

Meet the Dogs of Hammer & Trowel Construction LLC
You might spot these two hardworking pups riding along with Nick in the company truck as he does site visits or picks up materials!

Apollo – The Foreman
Apollo takes his role as job site foreman very seriously. Rescued from North Carolina, he quickly adapted to the construction life despite being only five years old. His daily responsibilities include patrolling property lines, keeping an eye out for rogue chipmunks, and ensuring no snacks go unclaimed. Apollo also plays a key role in site cleanup, often found under a shady tree responsibly "prepping" scrap lumber for disposal. When he's off duty, he enjoys running in the park, riding in the truck, and cuddling on the couch with his brother, Bleu.
Bleu – The Office Manager
The newest and youngest member of the team, Bleu is three years old and joined Hammer & Trowel on September 6, 2023. A proud recruit from the Humane Society of Chittenden County, Bleu had no prior carpentry experience but quickly found his niche in back-office operations. He prefers supervising paperwork, sitting in on meetings, and offering his opinions—often unprompted—during phone calls. When he's not working, Bleu enjoys playing with his rope, helping in the kitchen, and ensuring every pillow on the bed is properly tested for comfort.
These two might not swing a hammer, but they bring plenty of personality and company spirit to every project!
